Description

ABOUT ATLIS MOTOR VEHICLES

Atlis Motor Vehicles was born in CEO Mark Hanchett's garage, ignited by curiosity and personal motivation. Mark's goal: take his energy-guzzling diesel pickup and convert it into an electric truck. He leveraged his engineering background and brought in colleagues who are experts in various fields—power tech, batteries, automotive dynamics, etc.—to design a solution that solves the biggest pain points in the electric vehicle market today.

Our mission is a big one: We will change the world with better alternatives for work truck users. We will build something that matters. We will solve problems that are key to our customers' success. We will not be afraid of big challenges. There is a lot of work to do, and we're looking for optimistic problem-solvers to help us get there.

JOB DESCRIPTION

We are seeking a Senior Battery Cell Mechanical Design Engineer with practical experience in mechanical design engineering, and advanced battery cell design for EV applications and beyond. This position requires a strong background in mechanical design and prototyping, particularly for EV battery cell, pack design. The ideal candidate should exhibit a can-do attitude and demonstrate excellence in their respective fields and possess the ability to learn quickly and strive for perfection within a fast-paced environment.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Manage both new and existing product design projects which coordinate component design and component integration through the advanced cell process of engineering (POE), advanced technology work (ATW), and analysis, development, and validation (ADV).
  • This engineer will be responsible for requirements, drawings, designs, development, and validation of mechanical components and assemblies of the ATLIS cube cells. You will also be responsible for creating new cell packaging concepts, prototypes, and cell assembly tools to support the design of novel structure battery cells.
  • Lead the efforts to develop the tool and mechanism understanding mechanical behavior of electrochemical battery cell during operating and also lead the efforts to characterize the thermal behavior of the electrochemical cell.
  • Optimize the cell design, cell dimensions, and cell component formulations to achieve and improve cell performance such as specific energy & energy density, power density, calendar life & cycle life cell, safety as well as reduce production costs.
  • Support continuous improvement to battery cell production processes and equipment. Act as a key member for optimization of product design for manufacturing and quality and support process development. Provide engineering support to manufacturing and qualification teams to resolve production and quality issues.
  • As needed, collaborate with the supply chain in their communication with material suppliers, related to the development and validation of detailed material specifications for new materials, and the resolution of any quality issues.

IDEALLY, YOU HAVE EXPERIENCE WITH:

  • Competency in design analysis, 2D and 3D including CAD and analysis tools. ATLIS currently uses Inventor as CAD software.
  • Minimum 5 years experience in Mechanical Design Engineering for battery cell products, or other similar backgrounds.
  • Demonstrated strong expertise and technical skills in battery cell design, development, and validation of mechanical components and assemblies for high volume production.
  • Familiar with cell mechanical and thermal behaviors during testing and operation.
  • Familiarity with properties and applications of common engineering metals and polymers
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills and must be able to design. and conduct complex experiments, employing the DOE approach to interpret and correlate experimental results with battery product performance.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, great passion, and work ethic, strong interpersonal skills, and ability to work as a team player in collaborative, diverse, and inclusive working environments.
